Name(s): Toby
Gender: She-cat
Age: 32 moons
Clan: Loner/SkyClan
Rank: Loner
Appearance:
a large brown and white she-cat with blue eyes
The most noticeable thing about Toby is her size. She's a large cat, with a sturdy build and strong muscles. On top of this, she's got long fur that exaggerates her already intimidating size. Her fur is coarse rather than soft and smooth, but you can bet it keeps her warm during the winter months. Summer months are more troublesome; don't expect her to do much during a hot day. Her fur is mainly an off-white brown color, with the exception of her tail, head, and legs. These are a lighter brown color, but grow into a dark brown/black; one example would be the dark mask on her face. Even her nose and paw pads are black. However, her paws, tail tip, and muzzle are all white.
At first, "beautiful" is not a word used to describe Toby. Her size is impressive and she's as equally fierce, terrifying, and dangerous as you want her to be. Toby does have one attractive feature: her eyes. They are strikingly blue -- almost pretty, but she wouldn't know how to take a compliment like that.
Personality:
Upon first meeting Toby, she might seem unfriendly or even arrogant. Toby is reserved, private, and cautious when meeting others; however, her initial aggression and mistrust is often misunderstood. Toby has spent a greater part of her life alone, and has grown comfortable with this lifestyle. She prefers having fewer interactions to large social affairs, and therefore Clan life seems like a very overwhelming and toxic environment. In the first time meeting Toby or even after the first several times, cats will hardly know more about Toby than before. She is truly the hardened, unsociable stranger that everyone sees.
But she is not only that. Despite how cold and indifferent she seems, Toby is very attentive and intelligent. She has an outstanding ability to notice detail and remember facts -- she can recall things from memory in vivid detail, almost leading others to believe Toby has a photographic memory. She also tends to be very practical and pragmatic, as well as a diligent and sensible worker. If she makes up her mind to do something, may StarClan help the cat that gets in her way. All jokes aside, Toby is the cat you come to when you want something done and done well.
True to perceived nature, Toby is a fairly objective and rational cat. Motivated by achievement, good at noticing flaws, and never taking things too personally (at least on the surface) -- these are all traits that describe Toby. She values honesty and fairness, although others may be put off by her bluntness and apparent insensitivity. This hard, critical exterior doesn't misrepresent Toby entirely; however, she is more in tune with her values and feelings than she lets on. She can be very empathetic and considerate of others' feelings, and may often act against her better judgement (especially if it's someone she feels close to) although she'll voice her reluctance to do so.
Toby enjoys a structured environment. She likes to have things settled and seeks closure actively; anything left "undecided" leaves her feeling unsettled. She takes her responsibilities seriously and expects the same of others. She also has a keen sense of time and is usually prompt in doing things. Because of her desire for predictability and structure, she sees the need for most rules and will both follow and enforce them if she can. However, her experience as a loner has made her independent and unwilling to submit to the authority of another. She has constructed her own rules for certain situations she might encounter -- entirely necessary for the unpredictable and sometimes dangerous life she leads as a loner.
Toby is a confident and sometimes aggressive cat. She's quite large and muscular, and uses this to her advantage. Although she tends to keep to herself, she is not afraid to pick a fight -- even over a simple disagreement. Toby sees no need to be agile; she can withstand even the heaviest of hits and hits back even harder. However, she's most effective in close combat and when she can grab onto an opponent. Cats who can dodge quickly and keep out of her reach have the advantage -- beware, however! Such small cats don't stand a chance if she ever happens to get a hold of them; Toby's sheer power is likely knock them unconscious if she gets a good hit in.
Another downfall to her relying on strength rather than speed is that Toby is a poor hunter. Her life as a loner is spent scavenging for scraps or fighting others for their catch. She's sometimes lucky enough to take a more diplomatic approach, offering her services (usually involving her battling skills) in return for a mouse or two.
History:
Dawn was a kittypet queen who had two kits: one small and sleek, the other large and long-haired. Their mother had her own names for the two kits, but they were not hers to keep. When they were old enough, the two kits were adopted by a family as a gift for their little boy. They were his birthday presents, and the task of naming them came down to him. He decided he'd name the first one Milo and the second one Toby. He was pleased with himself, but later on in the day, his mother approached him:
"But Toby is a boy's name."
"Yeah, he's big."
"Honey, Toby is a girl kitty."
"Oh. She's a big kitty."
"Yes she is, dear. Do you want to rename her?"
"But she likes her name, Mommy. See?"
The name eventually stuck; mostly because the little boy refused to call her anything else.
They lived together for a month before the family made plans to move. They only intended to move across town, but the entire experience was greatly confusing and upsetting for Milo and Toby. They were curious and at the same time, frightened. New surrounding after new surrounding -- it was a little too much. With the help of their owners they began to settle in, but it only takes a door mindlessly left opened for things to change. Little Toby ran out with determination and curiosity, in awe of the world beyond.
But her awe turned to panic. The world was filled with strange things she had never seen; instinct kicked in... and Toby ran. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her -- not with a sense of direction, mind you, but an overwhelming sense of fear. She could hear the shouts of her owners behind her, and for a short time they chased after her. But she couldn't recognize them or even rationalize the situation. They were just another danger in this place with no end.
~
She had tried, once or twice, to find her way back. Finally, the truth settled in on one cold, lonely night: she was lost.
And Ceru was very, very lazy.
So lazy, in fact, that she did not write out Toby's history completely.
Histories are quite hard to write.
But here's a summary:
- Toby eventually travels out of the city
- She learns to live as a loner
- She lives this way for a long time
I'll update her history in the future as the muse comes, I promise; this should suffice for now, though.
