Name(s): Graykit Graypaw Gray---
Sex: Tom
Age: 6 moons
Clan: RiverClan
Rank: Apprentice
Appearance:
This kitteh.
Graypaw is thick-furred. Well, actually, it's a somewhat odd length, for it is not long enough to be considered long, but nor is it short enough to be short-furred or even quite medium-furred. His pelt is a sort of pale smokey gray color, with some hints of red or cinnamon sort of colors mixed in the blend. Mostly, he's gray, but he's also a bit gray-brown as well. His underside is much paler than his upper body, and the color gradients up from his belly and chest to his back and flank, which are darker. These paler parts are tinted red and are a sort of pale, rusty ginger color -- not quite pale enough to be pure cream, but certainly not close to ginger. His tail and paws have silver on the underside; Graypaw's tail is thick and dark. On his face is a faint tabby M marking just above his eyes that, in some ways, looks a bit like a fanged mouth because of the additional bottom two dark spots just inside his eyes. His thickest fur is around his neck, given the impression that his head is just sort of stuck atop this oddly shaped gray furry log.
Even so, perhaps Graypaw's most noticeable feature is his ears. They are large, pointed, and rather imposing in many ways. They are highly expressive and also probably the same size as the rest of his face. He might grow into them, but, then again, he might not. It's possible because, if one looks at his paws, Graypaw is going to grow to be rather large. His paws are still too big, and he tends to trip and fumble, and always has since he was a wee little kit. He has whiskers sprouting from his ears and above his eyes, as well as the regular spot on the muzzle. His additional whiskers aren't any of the sensory sort, just long hairs that seem very confused about what they should be doing. His eyes are a sort of olive color, not quite brown or green or yellow or amber all together. They are probably closest to amber, in truth. His nose is pink, his muzzle pointed.
Personality:
It's not too hard to figure out Graypaw. He pretty much wears everything on his sleeve; he is incredibly expressive, with his face, with his body, with his voice. He is a cat who is in tune with his emotions; he tends to be able to acknowledge that he is actually feeling something in the first place, and while that skill is not very mature yet -- as he is still so very young -- it will grow with time just as he does. Indeed, Graypaw is very outward with just about everything: he's outgoing, friendly, chatty, and compassionate. Sometimes, it can take quite an effort to shut him up once he gets rolling. He's not incredibly eloquent, and sure he makes plenty of grammatical mistakes, but he's young. That might be an excuse if he were another cat, but Graypaw most likely never will turn into a speech maker or elaborate poet. You'll know he's uncomfortable, however, by his quietness, both physical and vocal.
Even so, it's not as if he's particularly dumb. Of course, Graypaw isn't a genius, or an exceptionally quick learner, but he tries hard and sometimes succeeds. Indeed, he's mischievous, and that requires a certain amount of intelligence. He loves to joke and make others laugh; just making them happy is something that he longs to do. He can be quite the jester, as he is naturally loud and boisterous and energetic. Even though he is young, there seems to be a sort of extra "umph" to everything he does. He'll go above and beyond if he can; really, he's just big overall. Cats who are easily overwhelmed might wish to steer clear when they need their space, because he won't give it.
Graypaw is the sort of cat to ask questions in a friendly conversation, but he tends not to ask questions when in a threatening situation. He'll act without much thought, moving on impulse, instinct, and emotion rather than reason or logic. Much of his mischievousness comes less from carefully laid plans and more from creative, sudden impulses. This makes him particularly easy to manipulate: he tends not to form his own opinions before accepting another's as either correct or false, so he tends to be swayed by the one speaking, whoever that might be. In addition, though, he is extremely sympathetic and compassionate, and while these are helpful qualities to the honest folk in the world, it also is one for opportunistic, selfish cats who would use him for their own gain.
In addition, Graypaw is extremely devout and dedicated to StarClan. From his youth, he always was, and he believes anything that is said to be a sign wholeheartedly. The idea of be a noble, good cat, a good warrior, is extremely appealing to him, even -- or especially -- in his youth as he is now. Even so, he feels fear, perhaps more so than others, and is trying so very hard not to give in to his supposed need to turn tail and flee at the slightest provocation. In time, Graypaw will grow more able to stand still and face what is coming, but as of now, he still has a kit-like skittishness combined with the kit-like belief of self-immortality; an odd combination at best, but it gives him confidence until the moment comes that he truly needs it.
Graypaw has time and room to grow, and he surely will develop. As of now, he is a simple, kind cat with too much energy and enthusiasm and love to handle. And, indeed, his compassion will more than likely conflict with some of his devotion to the warrior code and RiverClan alone; these are trials he has yet to face, however. He continues, for the time being, to be carefree and cheery.
History:
Graypaw knows that he was born, six moons ago, to Honeybird and Brambleheart, a wonderful couple of ever there were one. Graypaw knows that he has two sisters: Redpaw and Briarpaw. What Graypaw "knows" is wrong. His true mother, whom he actually resembles in many ways if a cat bothered to look more than twice, is Coyotestar, his true father Elkshadow. Redpaw is, in fact, his biological sister, but Briarpaw is not -- it seems that there was a little code hidden in there, a color coding of the kits in a way. Graypaw's mother had to give up her kits so that she would be accepted as the deputy of RiverClan, and there was absolutely no way that anyone could find out that she had kits with a tom of another Clan (least of all the exceedingly unpopular Elkshadow). Thus Graypaw grew up, and is still growing up, under false pretenses and believing all the lies of his origins. In his mind, he is a pure RiverClan cat with two sisters and impossibly loving parents.
But origins are hardly important when regarded beside one's actions. Graykit was a mischievous, playful kit who always went out of his way to get in trouble if he could or to make a joke or play a prank. He was boisterous and high-energy. Not much has changed. A short time before he was made an apprentice, the leader, Featherstar, died. Graykit was not much affected; he had no close personal relation with the she-cat, nor did he ever recall interacting with her very much. Even when he became an apprentice, Graypaw was used to hearing cats ask why he couldn't be more like his sister, Redpaw, why he and Briarpaw had to be such miscreants all the time. Graypaw, naturally, just laughs at those questions and moves on.
He has so much life to live. When he proves himself, he'll become a warrior, and he is certain his leader will give him a great name.
